Related: About this forumFirst six months of 2014 were warmest in California's history
The first six months of 2014 were the hottest ever in California, according to the National Weather Service.
The period was nearly 5 degrees warmer than the 20th century average and more than a degree hotter than the record set in 1934, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
The first half of the year was the second warmest on average in Los Angeles in the last 70 years, with an average temperature just above 63 degrees.
Northern California cities, including San Francisco and Sacramento, experienced the warmest six months ever, NOAA reported.

(4,299 posts)1. Down here it feels hotter
than what the thermometer says -- like the UV index is 20 or something.

(26,603 posts)2. Maybe I'm just getting used to it, or we're getting a warmer average
but not the big extremes - because now that I look our local station really has been a few degrees F over the norm all year (except for June which was right at the average). I also moved into a new apartment this year, so perhaps better air flow and insulation is affecting my perception. Whatever the reason, I'll take it...
