Related: About this forumLiteral interpretations of SF street names
http://www.thebolditalic.com/articles/5556-literal-interpretations-of-sf-street-namesSan Francisco has 2,660 individually named streets, avenues, and boulevards. The city started stamping intersections with street names in 1905, just before the famous earthquake and fire of 1906. This came in handy when people were finding their way around in the aftermath; many landmarks were unrecognizable as more than 80% of the city was destroyed.
I love little historical factoids like this. But if theres one thing I love more than cold hard facts, its low brow humor. So in honor of all things simple-minded, I went out to photograph a few of my favorite street names with accompanying props. Queue sad trombone sound.

(3,163 posts)6. Tucson is full new streets with Spanish names
New subdivisions go for themes, one of which was "Calle Sin..."
Calle Sin Cielo -- street without sky
Calle Sin Vacas -- street without cows
I now live in San Diego, which has similar proclivity, on
Caminito Pintoresco -- tiny little picturesque street
It's actually fairly descriptive.

they could call it Calle Sin City.

Kinda far away though... no way I'd have the discipline to carry it all the way down there!
