Related: About this forum(San Diego) Minimum Wage goes to the June 2016 Ballot
http://reportingsandiego.com/2014/10/21/minimum-wage-goes-to-the-june-2016-ballot/Oct. 20, 2016 (San Diego) The San Diego City Council voted unanimously to put the minimum wage and sick days on the June 2016 ballot. The vote came after those who were against this raise and wanted it to be rescinded, and those who wanted it to go to the ballot had their say.
The Ordinance was introduced for the first time to the full council on July 14, 2014. It was discussed and a compromise was reached where the increase in pay would be lower. According to Council Member Marti Emerald, at no point did the opponents of this wanted to even discuss raising the minimum wage.
After the mayoral veto was overridden the San Diego Chamber of Commerce and other groups ran a successful signature gathering campaign to force this to the ballot. During todays meeting, Former Mayor Jerry Sanders, and current president of the Chamber, urged the Council to rescind this bad policy....
So we have a question at a policy level, We know San Diego is the eighth largest metropolitan area in the country, and that it is the fourth most expensive city to live at. How much do low wages cost the taxpayer in government subsidies. The Center for Tax Fairness tell the following tale about the largest civilian employer in the United States: Wal-Mart, (which is also planning to raise their wages, from the minimum wage)

Overridden, I might add, by a repuke who is only in office because Filner couldn't keep it in his pants.
I think they meant "Oct 20, 2014".

(4,935 posts)1. I HATE these people
Jerry Sanders is a liar and a crook! He has a fragile ego and is very vindictive!
I ran into many a signature gatherer outside VONS...He says they were abused?...well one time I was outside VONS filling up my 5-gallon water jugs when this young girl asked if I would sign the petition. I politely declined. She must have been dumb or blind or something cause not 5 minutes later she asked the same thing of me...Kept at it too, so to me she bordered on harassment. So if they got a lip and talk-back maybe its because of their high-pressure tactics!
