Contra Costa election site part of nationwide crash (xpost from Politics)

Contra Costa County’s election website went dark for more than five hours Tuesday, becoming one of many sites nationwide to fall prey to a malfunction linked to a Florida software company.

The downed site made it difficult for voters in the East Bay — and elsewhere — to get information, notably the location of polling sites, a common search on election day, Contra Costa County officials said.

The crash, which also affected election websites in Ventura and Shasta counties, hit Contra Costa County about 7:30 a.m. Election officials said the site was back up and running by 1 p.m.

Tampa, Fla.-based SOE Software said the problem was due to an unexpectedly high number of users on the election sites it hosts, according to Scott Konopasek, Contra Costa County assistant registrar.
