'Biggest snowfall I've seen this late'; Boulder County residents slammed in mountains

It was a different sort of spring cleaning for residents in the foothills of Boulder County as they embarked Friday on the arduous task of digging their way out of several feet of snow dumped on them by a late-season storm.

While the lower-elevation areas of Boulder County saw between 4 and 6 inches of snow, the western parts of the county were slammed by the snowstorm.

National Weather Service spotters reported 42 inches of snow near Allenspark, 41.7 northeast of Ward, 38.2 near Jamestown and 30 inches in Nederland.

Natalie Sullivan with the National Weather Service said that a low pressure system passed directly over the foothills, and temperatures dropped enough for snow to fall.
