Michael Kors sues New Haven flea market, alleging counterfeit sales
NEW HAVEN — Fashion house Michael Kors LLC filed a lawsuit Tuesday against vendors and operators of The Boulevard Flea Market on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, alleging counterfeit goods bearing the company’s brand have been sold there for years and that, despite repeated warnings, the practice has not ceased.
The lawsuit names flea market operator C.G.C. Enterprises and its owner, Charles Cheslock; landlord Digsby, Taylor and Hobbes and Vice President Richard Lebov, and 100 “John Does” — individuals believed to have sold counterfeit Michael Kors products at the market — as defendants.
The practice dates back years, according to the complaint.
Attorneys for Michael Koors note that New Haven police reportedly seized more than $2 million worth of counterfeit goods from the market in November 2013 and found, according to NBC Connecticut, “people putting Michael Kors labels on generic bags.”
According to the complaint, an inspector working on behalf of the company purchased counterfeit products from 31 vendors in June 2018 and 19 in December 2018. Michael Kors then sent cease-and-desist letters.
