Elections enforcement agency criticized

The panel enforcing state election laws failed to meet deadlines for a number of its reports, according to state auditors.

A new audit indicates the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) took months, or years, to complete some of its required duties.

For instance, auditors said the SEEC had a backlog of outstanding reports on candidate campaign committees, and summaries of election violations.

The SEEC disputed some of the findings, saying the agency has dealt with considerable staffing shortages - some permanent - adding it will do a better job of coordinating its reports.
