Chain Of Connecticut Methadone Clinics Pay $883K To Settle Claims Of Double Billing
A chain of methadone clinics in Connecticut will pay the state and federal governments $883,859 to settle allegations of overbilling the state’s Medicaid program.
Attorney General George Jepsen and Roderick Bremby, commissioner of the state Department of Social Services, announced the settlement Friday. The state will receive half of the money.
According to a news release from Jepsen’s office, an audit discovered that APT Foundation Inc., which operates clinics in New Haven, North Haven and Bridgeport, was sending samples for drug testing to an off-site laboratory while continuing to be reimbursed by the state for those services. As a result, the state was paying for each of those claims twice. Despite the audit, the practice continued from January 2016 through November 2016.
Methadone is used to treat those suffering from opioid addiction.
