DC Mayor Muriel Bowser won't run for reelection
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced Tuesday she won’t seek reelection next year, teeing up a high-stakes race to lead the nation’s capital during the remainder of President Trump’s term.
“It has been the honor of my life to be your mayor. But today, with a grateful heart, I am announcing that I will not seek a fourth term,” Bowser said in a video on the social media platform X.
The 53-year-old Bowser, who has served as mayor since 2015, touted in her video a number of accomplishments during her tenure, such as a deal to build a new football stadium in the city.
She also steered the city through several tumultuous chapters in its recent history, including the protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 and the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
