Natalie Delgadillo
The D.C. attorney generals office is charging a 28-year-old man with leaving the scene of a car crash and driving without a license after he allegedly got into a fender bender while driving Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon Whites car. ... The mans name is Sergio Raynard Hill, and he lives in Southeast Washington, according to court documents. Hill got into a crash in Whites 2007 BMW on March 18 along I-295 near the Malcolm X Avenue exit, per the affidavit. He allegedly rear-ended a Toyota Camry with three people inside, causing damage to both vehicles.
While he initially stopped on the side of the road to speak with the Camry driver, Hill reportedly told the Camry driver that his name was Sergio Vererta, and gave him two phone numbers that didnt work, according to court documents. He left the scene, and the Camry driver called the police.
On March 20, as reports began circulating that Whites car had been involved in a hit and run, the councilmember released a statement acknowledging that he knew his car had been involved in an accident, but that he was not driving it at the timehis friend had taken the car without his permission, he said. On March 19, White noticed that there was minor front-end damage to one of his cars, but he thought someone must have backed into it during the night. He filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Department, and officers later told him that his car had been involved in an accident the night before.
Soon after my conversation with MPD officials, a friend admitted that he borrowed the car without my consent and was involved in a minor fender bender the night before. He stated that he was able to resolve the accident at the scene with the other driver, the statement read in part. White again said that his friend spoke with the driver of the other car and was able to resolve the accident in
a radio interview with WKYS. ... Hills next court hearing is scheduled for May 1.
