The Republican National Convention has received a permit from the National Park Service to
host a fireworks show on the National Mall on Thursday. The event will mark the end of the convention, and also happens to fall the night before tens of thousands of people are expected to converge in D.C. for the
March on Washington 2020.
The RNC will be responsible for the events production and all associated costs. Additionally, the Park Service will recover from the RNC all costs incurred as a result of the activity, including NPS administrative costs for permit preparation and management of the event, and monitoring of the activity to ensure compliance with the conditions of the permit, according to an email from Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst.
The permit says the total number of participants is limited to 50 staff. The event will take place on federal property, though D.C.
currently prohibits mass gatherings of more than 50 people under its reopening guidelines.
