SUNRISE THURSDAY ECLIPSE

When the sun rises in the Northeast Thursday, part of it will be missing. Don't worry, though, it's just an eclipse!
In Washington DC, the sun will be 55% blocked by the moon at peak of the eclipse.

Maximum eclipse comes minutes after the sun rises at 5:42 a.m. Partly to mostly cloudy conditions may offer at least a few glimpses locally.

More broadly, the best viewing at sunrise Thursday in the US seems to run from near NYC into the interior Northeast. The Great Lakes should also see clear spots. New England may deal with a few high clouds.

As with ordinary sunrises and sunsets, anything more than a fleeting side glance can damage your eyes. Never look directly at or near the sun. Eye protection is required for directly viewing an eclipse.

I don't know if most amateur cameras could handle a direct photo of an annular eclipse

The only other alternative is eclipse sunglasses, which I don't trust
