An update for those worried about freezing rain in the D.C. area Sunday morning..

Yes, the National Weather Service still has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect starting at 6 a.m. Sunday north and west of D.C., specifically for Montgomery, Loudoun, Howard, northern Fauquier counties and points north and west, for the possibility of freezing rain that could make travel difficult.

A spotty morning sprinkle or brief light shower is indeed possible in the advisory area, and with temperatures in the mid-20s to near 30, any rain that does fall would freeze on contact. So keep this in mind.

HOWEVER, most models now show any meaningful precipitation not arriving in the immediate D.C. area until after 11 a.m. or so. By then, temperatures should be rising above freezing with just plain rain, which will continue through the afternoon.

The exception could be parts of Frederick, Carroll and northern Loudoun Counties, where an hour or so of freezing rain would be possible before changing to plain rain.

Pictured below is the HRRR hourly forecast radar for 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

I realize that if you have a job that requires you to get on the road on a Sunday morning (I've been there, so I understand) you are more or less screwed. But if you have a choice, stay home.
