Wow! Up to 75 in DC. That's 25 degrees above normal for the date.

Second warmest reading for Feb. 23 on record.

BUT... Freezing temperatures only 120 miles to the northwest as a cold front is moving through the region. Crashing temperatures this evening.

Now, I like cold and snow, but when it drops down to zero or below, I can assure those who've never experienced frozen fingers, despite two layers of heavy gloves-- that they probably can't fathom the pain of having them start to warm up. Like that poor Norwegian x-country skier whose "third pole" froze during the Olympics and who suffered intense pain upon thawing, I can attest via my experience with fingers this morning that this is no laughing matter. Those who suggest freezing is not a bad way to "go out." I think not.

Still, I'll take our occasional intense cold and/or major snow. Plus I get to see the snow-capped mountains every day...

Change is good, right?

Lake effect snow. Tried to ride my bike in a snowstorm, my fingers have never been the same I grew up in a more temperate climate. Now every time they get cold, that warmup is just excruciating you have my sympathy.
