Gov. Ron DeSantis acknowledged the academic gap among students Friday and doubled-down on his belief that parents deserve the right to choose the best medium of education for their children.
Speaking to media during a press conference in Apopka, DeSantis defended his hotly contested decision to reopen Florida public schools in August.
As good as Floridas system is compared to other states in the country, the distance learning is not the same, DeSantis said. There is an academic gap that has developed.
Florida schools were ordered to abruptly close in March as the COVID-19 pandemic began its grip on the state. Since then, Floridas schools have defaulted to remote learning as the primary means of instruction.

What kind of GAP will this cause in kids already struggling under crappy political education decisions?
Imagine the gap if a child carries the virus to at risk family members and there are deaths?
Intelligent thought processes are not one of DeSantis strong points.

If he was really worried about FL kids education and competitiveness, maybe he would make education an actual priority in the state.

(669 posts)The Florida gap in education existed long before Covid-19. There's a reason they're near the bottom of educational stats. A few months off school isn't going to hurt.
