In Tallahassee, Elmer Fuddesque incompetence has its perks

Let’s say your boss came to you with an important task. “Bumstead, we need you to prepare a detailed analysis of the upcoming Haversham merger. This is a critical assignment, and you have 60 days to get it done.”

Two months pass. When your supervisor asks for the report, you say: “Uh, never quite got around to it. I spent the last eight weeks, leaving work early, swilling cocktails, watching Netflix and frequenting topless bars.”

A simple question. How long do you think you would still be employed? Not long. However, if you were the governor of Florida or a member of the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature you would be rewarded with gobs of campaign contributions, powerful committee assignments, re-election and a reserved VIP table in Tucker Carlson’s green room.

After all, in Tallahassee Elmer Fuddesque incompetence has its perks.

Sixty days. Two Months. Eight weeks, not to mention the various committee activity leading up to the 2022 Florida legislative session. And yet at the end of all the very impressive looking purposefully striding back and forth across the Capitol building, your august Republican public servants, including the Huey Long-lite of Florida politics, Gov. Ron DeSantis, turned out to be less responsive to the real needs of their constituents than Mel Brooks’ Gov. William J. Le Petomane in “Blazing Saddles.”

"The Kingfish" was a left-wing populist, famous for his "Share Our Wealth" speech advocating for massive federal spending, a wealth tax, and wealth redistribution. Long, like DeSantis, was a power-hungry, authoritarian demagogue, leading to talk of armed insurrections and numerous death threats by his many enemies. Huey was eventually assassinated; his last words were, “God, don’t let me die. I have so much to do.”

You would realize that we are better off when they are at the nightclub or golf course than passing legislation. Party on dudes!

The state has become flooded with the worst that the Northern blue states are losing.
On the Treasure Coast, St. Lucie county - once a reliably Blue county sandwiched in between Red Indian River and Martin counties - went red in 2020. Rep Brain Mast, who has become a reliable rubber stamp for the Racist Party was reelected and longtime Blue District 84 elected a former swimming pool/cum ad salesperson/trumpian to the seat long admirably held by Larry Lee and Delores Hogan Johnson - helped out in a large measure by her Busch distributorship CFO husband.
We're not getting their best, folks - we're getting the idiots, the duped, the gullible, the racists.
Even the solid blue heavily populated counties to the south are being infected with the stupid.
It was once fairly predictable that the states' inherent base of confederates, anti-regulation industrialists, and developers would not be enough to swing the state to the red. Those days are over, and imo it's the influx of anti-tax&vaxxxers, religious nuts, and other assorted culture warriors from the north that have tipped the scales.
Prior to the 2016 election, I witnessed a small but loud group of trumpanzees on a local street corner. It was days before the election and I thought then that there was no way that their idiotic game show host candidate would win and that they would once again disappear into the woodwork, from whence they came. But it is us, the Dems and the left in Florida that have been disappearing.
