Florida Governor signs law requiring students, faculty be asked their political beliefs

https://thehill.com/changing-america/enrichment/education/559881-florida-gov-signs-law-requiring-students-and-faculty-be/

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday signed legislation mandating public colleges and universities survey students and faculty about their beliefs in an effort to promote intellectual diversity on campuses.

“We obviously want our universities to be focused on critical thinking, academic rigor,” DeSantis said during a news conference Tuesday, according to the Naples Daily News.

“We do not want them as basically hotbeds for stale ideology,” he said.

“It used to be thought that a university campus was a place where you’d be exposed to a lot of different ideas,” DeSantis said. “Unfortunately, now the norm is, these are more intellectually repressive environments,” he added.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. This is reminiscent of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. It is the proverbial camel's nose in the tent, the notching up of the temperature for the goldfish.

IT IS NOT THE STATE OF FLORIDA'S BUSINESS what students' and faculties' political beliefs are. This is an uwarranted intrusion about First Amendment rights.

Upon the election of either Crist or Fried, they need to immediately get this law off the books.

I have two kids at FSU who told me they haven't been surveyed yet. They are a little disappointed. They and all of their friends were planning on submitting "DeSantis is an authoritarian prick" as their sole contribution.

I assume either GQP don't care about history wherein many people came to the USA for "freedom of religion" or they don't give a shit.

I'll take both. The GQP never believed in "freedom" of anything. If Floridians still keep voting for them "freedom" will cease to exit.

Also pursuant to USA history, criminals were also sent. Hmmmmm, maybe the GQP are more incline to behave as their ancestry.

My husband's grandfather lost out on jobs because he was an r. I think this practice, at least for public positions, was outlawed on the 1960s. Now, if someone takes it up the court heirarchy, the 6 unelected despots will rule in favor of this assault on privacy.

Conservatism is as stale and moldy as month old white bread. We should understand what conservatives do and how they think so we ca devise teaching plans that avoid it and. Some day researchers may find a cure for it. Until them we should isolate the current sufferers. Loyalty oaths will be mandatory at the federal level if this kkklown steals 2024. The Old Fat Orange Mar-A Lardo resident kkklown will be a fond memory after Death Sentence and his party get through with raping America. He is an intelligent version of hate.

rightwing ideology and theory should also be taught in Florida's public universities. Many Republican parents say the education their offspring receive in public schools and universities is too liberal. In truth they're upset the crazy ideas they taught them at home aren't being reinforced at school.

The problem with DeSantis' latest fatwa is that truth, facts and reality have a well known liberal bias. Reputable academicians refuse to go along with the science-denying, quasi-religious claptrap, and all the rightwing conspiracy theories and revisionist history Mullah Ron wants them to teach.

“That story is about HB 233, specifically the requirement in the bill that the State Board of Education and the Board of Governors must "select or create an objective, nonpartisan, and statistically valid survey to be used by each institution which considers the extent to which competing ideas and perspectives are presented and members of the college community, including students, faculty, and staff, feel free to express their beliefs and viewpoints on campus and in the classroom."”
