Some progress on the front to keep cops honest in Florida.

Three cops disciplined for hiding details in excessive force case

SANFORD — A Seminole County Sheriff's Office sergeant has been demoted for ordering a deputy to rewrite a report and hide details about a Lake Mary cop she saw rough up a bar owner Halloween night, records show.

Sgt. Kristen Bates is one of three officers to be disciplined for what happened at a Lake Mary bar. Christopher Dye, the Lake Mary officer accused of roughing up the bar owner, has been fired and is awaiting trial on evidence tampering charges.

Bates was demoted and suspended without pay for a month. Celinas Rios, who she ordered to alter the report, was suspended for two weeks without pay.
