Related: About this forumI just got my sample ballot for the Democratic primary and I'm voting for....
Nan Rich. She's for:
Pro-choice
Marriage equality
The Affordable Care Act
Increasing the minimum wage to $10.10
Ban on fracking in Florida
Closing the gun show loopholes
Increasing funding for public schools
Full accountability for curriculum and performance of charter schools
While I understand many Democratic Floridians have never heard of her, and many Florida DU'ers don't think she has a snowball's chance in hell to win the general election, I personally think she is the best candidate. She has worked in the state legislature for 12 years, holding the Senate's Democratic President seat for 2 years. She has the experience and credibility.
I know she'll probably not win the primary, but I cannot go against my values and vote for someone I see as an opportunist who will sell us up the creek if it serves his purposes.

(39,343 posts)The last thing we need is another Sink-like performance by a weak Democrat that no one has heard of. At least people have heard of Crist. I'm also voting for Crist because he was hired as an attorney by John Morgan, who got medical cannabis on the ballot with millions of his own money, in the hopes that a Crist administration might be a lot more cannabis friendly than a 2nd Scott administration.

(17,064 posts)I'll vote for Crist in Nov. But in the primary I'm voting for the more progressive candidate as a message to the Fla Dem Party. Hopefully, Rich gets enough votes that the Party will sit up and take notice. If things continue as is, theres a lot of Progressives are going to walk away from the State Party.

(15,435 posts)Not gonna have ANOTHER Rubio screw-up! Scream if you want, I know about Nan, but I WANT RICK SCOTT OUT!!
Crist has a better chance of getting Independents IMO!
Fla Dem
(23,685 posts)the end. If he turns out to be genuine, then great. If he wins the primary, and he probably will, I'll vote for him. He has to be better than Scott.

(17,064 posts)As a Republican Governor, he was pretty moderate and reasonable. I think he will be moreso as a Dem Governor. However, the state party does need to get the message that Progressives are a force to be reckoned with, and disagree with their Third Way policies.

(17,064 posts)... with a sizeable segment of the base. Peep need to support progressives in the primaries. And if you have to hold your nose to vote for the Dem candidate in the GE (like Bill Nelson), then voting 3rd party is a reasonable option.

(23,685 posts)Even if it isn't the ideal candidate, I'd rather have a Dem in office than anything else. Unless of course you're talking about a 3rd partier like Bernie Sanders.

(88,117 posts)Nothing against Nan Rich, just being really practical this time. This state is on the verge of being destroyed. In spite of ugly robo calls several times a day against Crist, he has so far held his own against Scott.

(15,435 posts)now & kept hanging up. Then I decided to just call the number back and got a message to enter my phone number if I wanted to be removed. So will see what happens tomorrow. I don't have anything against Nan Rich either, but Democrats here need to understand that she's basically he "monkey wrench" right now. Just think about Kendrick Meek who NEVER had a chance to win as Senator, but so many Dems stuck with him. I'm not saying Crist would have won against Rubio as an Independent, but the split only helped Rubio!
I didn't vote when Crist ran as Governor, but he did surprise me by being much more moderate than I thought he would be.
AND, I kind of think that given ALL the crap he's taken from Repukes in this state he probably IS much more of a Democrat now than when he first decided to change parties. I feel he's probably happier not having to kiss up to a Repuke Party that's so far to the right. Rubio certainly seems to have gotten himself tangled up in with the T-baggers even if that wasn't his intent in the beginning.
At least if we vote for Crist it should be evident to others that he has a better chance against "the alien" Scott!! And as I said before he will probably be able to draw in more Independents with him.

(34,136 posts)They are from some Rethuglican group using old campaign tapes from when Crist was Republican. They are deliberately trying to piss people off by calling repeatedly.
I got pissed today after getting them more than once a day every day for over a week. I called the Crist campaign to complain and that is what they told me.
I'm tempted to vote for Nan Rich in the primary but will hold my nose and vote for Crist in November.

(15,435 posts)That's the reason why I called the number back. They've worded the call as if it was from Crist, and some might think so at first, but I figured it out quickly. Since I called them back and had my number removed I haven't gotten THAT one again,
I suspect the Repukes will start another one that makes it sound like the last. I didn't call the Crist call campaign, but was tempted to call the Scott campaign. I may still do it just to let them know how I feel. Not sure they give a crap though.
I AM getting an overwhelming number of emails from Nan Rich at both of my emails. I've already stated my reasons for voting for Crist, I'll do what I have to if it gives me a better chance to kick Scott out! I realize Rich is a long time Dem, but simply don't think she can win. Too little, too late. Unfortunately I've seen too many races get screwed up when this happens.
I'm not even going to take a chance by voting for her in the Primary. Just feel too strongly she has no chance of beating Scott.

(7,622 posts)I like Rich marginally more than Crist. Scott is exponentially more toxic than either Crist or Rich. I believe Crist-Scott is a much better match-up than Rich-Scott. So- I voted for Crist.
I attended the Attorney General forum this evening in Palm Beach. Both Democratic candidates- George Sheldon and Perry Thurston- are excellent. In a better world Pam Bondi couldn't hope to compete with either. In this world I voted for Charlie...
