Crist campaign story.

I was underwhelmed by the Crist campaign on a number of occasions. One last incident earned my "campaign booby prize, 2014."

I volunteer with the Martin County Democratic party. The Crist campaign had no office or staff in our red county, so we had a tough time getting Crist campaign materials. People kept asking us for yard signs and we turned around and asked the Crist campaign several times. Promises of delivery of 75 signs on an unspecified future date were made a number of times. Finally, on October 19th we got an email from a Crist field organizer saying that the promised delivery of yard signs was no longer a possibility. The last sentence of that email: "Thank you for wanting to get our yard signs and show your support for Gov Crist!"

We had virtually no yard signs deployed and over 50% of the votes were already cast via vote by mail and early voting. On the Friday before election day, a union field organizer who covers job sites in our area and also in Palm Beach and Broward counties to the south got a tip that thousands of Charlie Crist signs were gathering dust in a back room in a Broward County office. He picked up 1200 signs and dropped them off at our office. We put them all together and got them out- one and two days before the election.

Never saw any Crist yard signs. I had a bumper sticker but did not see another. (Except at my local DEC office.)
That is the difference money makes. Volunteers go only so far.
To be fair to Crist , some politicians just don't do yard signs.
The last minute millions from Scott's personal stash surely put him over the top as it did against Sink.

Loss of our hard won gains in the Florida Legislature is a gut punch.

WTF FL people WTF did you not VOTE!!

I did something I didn't think I would do, but donated $50 to his campaign for magnets, 2 of them. They told me it would take 2 to 3 weeks, I think is was 13 days and I got them. I got two sets, a set at that time, then about 4 days before election got 2 more.

But I did have the magnets way before election. I live in a very Red county too. Of course these did come in the mail. Are you saying Crist ran a crappy campaign? Not like Crist at all. I read an article from Tampa Times, not sure that's the name of the paper, but it was kind of a "hit" job on Crist. BUT, there was NO story I could find about Scott.

I don't recall seeing Crist road signs either, but figured it was because of this Red Wealthy County, that Scott came to a couple of times. Normal to me. There were lots of Scott signs on Interstate, but hardly any for Crist. I did wonder why not.

Crist has run in the past for several offices and I know he knows how to campaign. I remember once being in Tampa when he ran for Governor, the time he won. There was a HUGE banner on a bank sign, I mean HUGE! Can't remember the building, but it was very well known. Why would Crist sabotage his own campaign?

Also I watch FSTV and a journalist, can't remember his name... I know him Tomaski (sp) almost sure. He said Crist had gotten help from people who ran Obama's ground game here in FL. I did get 2 polling calls because I have a land line. Our local Democratic Party sent us ballot information, asked for phone bankers, poll workers, money and various other campaign jobs.

Please explain what you're saying. Are you sure the call was from Crist campaign? Since the election I've said something went wrong, but hard to believe Crist wouldn't run a good campaign. He also got a lot of donations from a LOT of lawyers near the end of campaign who REALLY wanted Crist to win.

As I said, I'm confused by this post! Wonder if the same thing happened here. This is just too weird, a candidate who DIDN'T want advertisement?

I think they knew they were going to be outspent and they tried to concentrate their resources where they thought they would do the most good- campaign triage.

I'm sympathetic to their dilemma but my other contacts with the Crist campaign were also mostly underwhelming.

His donation soliciters kept forgetting whether they were supposed to be visiting Republican donors, Democratic donors, or Independent donors, and wound up getting thrown out of the offices of all three. He has, after all, now lost as a Republican, lost as an Independent, and lost as a Democrat. There is still the Green Party and the Libertarian Party, so he doesn't have to quit changing parties.
