Florida
Related: About this forumThank you to the Democrats who lost the governor's race...
"And before his Sharpie runs out of ink, Scott might send notes to all the Democrats who didn't bother to show up and vote.
As it turns out, more of those absent voters are from Miami-Dade than anywhere else: The county's turnout of 40.7 percent was the lowest of all 67 counties nearly 10 points below the statewide average of 50.5 percent.
Miami is strongly Democratic. That's one more reason why Crist lost (at last count by fewer than 65,000 votes)."

This was a stupid, stupid loss for the Florida.

(3,065 posts)You think because Crist put a D next to his name that he was really a Democrat? Last time he was Independent and before that a Republican. Maybe they figured fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
I voted on the first day of early voting here in Broward County, but I didn't vote for Governor. If the option was available, I would have voted none of the above.

(9,070 posts)Crist may not be a pure progressive, but he would have made a big difference in vetoes, appointments, and for state employees.
Scott is now free to run amok for 4 years in ways that are much worse than the last 4.

(9,070 posts)and virtually every undocumented person in Florida lives in an extended family where some are citizens, or born here, or have a green card. Others in the same family are illegal.
If there had been a better effort to resolve this, it would have gotten out the vote for that group.

(666 posts)When will these voters learn...Crist would've been much better than Scott, thanks for playing in a role in allowing a R Governor to be in charge during the next Presidential election...Now i understand how all those liberal initiatives passed while the people elected RW nut jobs

(3,065 posts)There were no Democrats running for Governor. There was Valdemort and a carpet bagger.
I voted my conscience and in my best interest. Crist is, IMO not in my best interest. Better the Devil I know than to vote for someone who flip flops on his principles.
Twice.
D wasn't available in 2012 so he picked I. We didn't have a real Dem to nominate this year so he registered D and won the Primary. Now suddenly he has liberal views and values? I didn't buy it. I think he wants to be Governor because its a great job and he'll do and say anything to get it. I couldn't in good conscience vote for him.
And not voting for him doesn't mean I support Scott. He's as big a phony as Crist. And he just follows the party line of Republicans. There isn't an original thought in his head.
But, like I said on election night, The sun will continue to rise and there's plenty of fresh air to breathe. The weather is beautiful here year round and that will never change. No matter who's Governor.

(9,070 posts)Crist may not be a pure progressive, but he was a world better for Democrats than Scott. We'd be much better off to have any Democrat in office than a Tea Party hack like Scott.
This was a chance to prevent a lot of damage to state employees, education, and the environment.

(15,435 posts)HOW stupid this was! I could make a long list as to "the why," but the HUGE GLARING reality is the message that this state sent AGAIN! I've lived here in Florida for all of my adult life having moved here after I married my husband who was born in Tampa.
As a true liberal I strongly felt I needed I had to do what I did to get people to vote for Crist. Can't say I was crazy about him, but as I have said before, when he was governor before (didn't vote for him then) he did surprise me because he wasn't the type of "R" I expected. I tend to think he tried to govern in his own way, but moderately. Is he any more of an opportunist than other politicians, I don't think so. Aren't most politicians opportunists and do much behind closed doors that make regular people furious? I have no doubt about it, but for this state to demand a certain amount of purity from Crist that so called "true" Democrats like Joe Manchin aren't held to is just plain STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! I have lists of "true" Democrats that are no better, starting with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Bill Nelson and maybe I'll include Ed Rendell too! There are so many, but here in FLORIDA maybe too many people spent time at the beach and have SALT between their ears!
To sit back and LET Rick Scott get elected again is beyond my comprehension. If we thought George Bush couldn't string a sentence together, did anyone ever WATCH an interview with Scott?? This is one DANGEROUS, dangerous man because I doubt he makes a decision without checking with his higher ups who probably don't give a rat's ass about this state. He's a crook and they paid good money for him! So now they can put another check on their side of the column. This state isn't VT., it's HUGE in the whole scheme of things.
THIS DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN! It's so mind boggling to me to have thrown the Repukes this high priced piece of meat! Their claws dug into us deeper and their boots stamped on the backs of our necks with more power. I know what I sound like, but even here in my very Red county I don't think I met one person who had anything good to say about Scott. Even Repukes said they wouldn't vote for him!
I really wonder how many people gave this election any real thought and what kind of message it sent! So out of touch, and as one person here said rather glibly IMO, in not so many words... the sun will come up tomorrow and comments of this sort, are almost more than I can take. Florida has been building a weird image for some time now and it keeps getting worse. So many people laugh when I say where I'm from! Since the election of 2000 too many outsiders call us the state that doesn't know how to vote! And now we get rolled by re-electing a dyed in the wool proven CROOK!
Yes, I voted for a somewhat faux Democrat, would have preferred one that was more like me, but for this state I realized it's not a wish that would be granted. We NEEDED to show the Repukes that we would vote like they do, beat them at their own game, go along to get along, but NO too many just didn't seem to see this or understand. At this point in time, FL is no place I'm going to find purity so I did what I felt I needed to do.
My feelings about what I plan to do to help in the future are best left for me to keep quiet about. I'll just say I'm more than fed up and that rope I was hanging onto may have snapped it's last thread! My roots are here, my extended family lives here, I can't just get up and move. I really don't have that option. I'm sure many don't see things as I do, but I just feel I have to have my say. So to those of you who think I sound crazy, OH WELL, TOO BAD. Maybe this election finally put me over the cliff, who knows?
RICK SCOTT?? RICK SCOTT?? OMFG, just read my tag line. Never was truer than right now!
