Florida has highest number of new HIV diagnoses

St. Petersburg, Florida - While actor Charlie Sheen's announcement of his HIV-positive status may come as a surprise to some, a St. Pete grandmother says learning she was HIV positive rocked her world. Anettia Wright says you may be surprised to learn who is actually infected.

Wright who is 48 years old and divorced says, "I was being a devoted wife and I thought things were great. I never thought this could happen to me." She learned of her status 15 years ago and says, "That test changed my life forever."

According to the Department of Health the groups most impacted by HIV are youth, heterosexual black women, black men, men who have sex with men, transgender women and the elderly. In 2013, 23 percent of new HIV infections in Florida were among those 50 and older.

Florida now has the highest number of new HIV diagnoses of any state in the country, according to Florida's Department of Health.

that a dentist from Tulsa infected some of his patients.

More than 7,000 patients from Harrington's Tulsa and Owasso clinics were sent letters in late March outlining the risk of infection and steps to obtain free blood testing. Of 3,122 patients tested by county health departments so far, 57 tested positive for hepatitis C, three tested positive for hepatitis B, and at least one tested positive for HIV.

As a retired nurse reading today how many women had tried to self-abort in TX, I would just like to add that if this trend continues the USA will have an epidemic to rival Africa.

Its no surprise that mortality rates are exploding in such states.

but that would require investing money in our education system, which is something Gubbernor Scott is wholly against.
