After Hurricane Matthew blows past, gas shortages linger
After weathering a close call with Hurricane Matthew, Palm Beach County residents on Friday turned to a more mundane task: finding a filling station that was pumping petrol.
Many pumps remained cloaked by bags as of Friday afternoon, a reminder of the pre-storm rush to top off tanks and fill gas cans. The Palm Beach Post visited 20 stations in West Palm Beach and found only half had fuel.
Funeral home worker Tom Hallman said his usual fuel supplier was tapped out, so he was relieved that the Murphy Oil in suburban West Palm Beach had plenty of gas. He filled his white minivan before the storm, but after driving to Delray Beach in the morning, Hallman needed to refuel before heading to Miami.
We have an account with a company, and they didnt even have gas, Hallman said.
