Suspended Tavares mayor Robert Wolfe resigns as part of deal
TAVARES Suspended Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe resigned his position and agreed not to seek another elected office while he is on probation for insurance fraud as part of a program for first-time offenders that will leave him without a conviction on his record.
Gov. Rick Scott in July suspended Wolfe from office after state insurance investigators charged him with defrauding his homeowner insurance company after water damage at his Tavares home. Vice-mayor Lori Pfister has been serving in his stead since July, and Troy Singer, a businessman and Tavares High graduate, was appointed to take her seat.
In the agreement with the State Attorney's office, signed Tuesday, Wolfe admitted his guilt and pledged to pay the $1,249.33 that it cost to investigate the fraud, along with court costs of $250 and $52 a month to defray the cost of supervising his 18-month probation.
Under the agreement, which can't be ended early, Wolfe would not be prosecuted if he lives up to all the conditions.
