Estimated 7,000 march in West Palm Beach
This is a true rising up, said Alex Newell Taylor, 34, the West Palm Beach area captain for the Womens March on Washington, D.C. Something powerful will come out of this.
Taylor said her contingent in Washington, D.C., was about 7,000 strong; part of an estimated 27,000 from Florida. In West Palm Beach, organizers claimed 7,000 showed up to the Meyer Amphitheatre to voice their determination to go forward with issues ranging from gay and lesbian rights to climate change. In Miami, an estimated 10,000 flooded into Bayfront Park Amphitheater.
Ginger Pedersen, 53, of Boynton Beach, originally booked her trip to Washington thinking that she would be watching the first female U.S. president's inauguration. But news of the march stirred her to still make the trip - for a host of reasons, she said, including Trumps own campaign slogan.
To a lot of people, making America great again is a dog whistle for, Lets put people back in their place, she said. We cant go back.
