UF Health's newest hospitals take pains with details

An early tour of the UF Health Heart and Vascular Hospital and the UF Health Neuromedicine Hospital was given Thursday to show off the $415 million facilities expected to open at the end of the year.

GAINESVILLE -- From bathroom floors that slope ever so slightly to operating rooms that have adjoining imaging machines, the building that will house two new UF Health hospitals is a model of attention-to-detail design.

A media tour of the UF Health Heart and Vascular Hospital and the UF Health Neuromedicine Hospital was given Thursday to show off the $415 million facilities expected to open at the end of the year.

“We are trying to create spaces that make people more comfortable. We know that they are here often for longer stays so to create a space for the perfect patient experience is what we are trying to address,” said Bradley Pollitt, vice president of facilities for UF Health Shands.

The building, being constructed by Skanska USA, is across Archer Road from UF Health Shands Hospital and east of the UF cancer hospital. Several walkways, including a third-floor outdoor patio by a food court, connect the cardio/neurology and the cancer hospitals.
