Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan closed the door on the possibility of opening early voting sites on college campuses for the 2018 elections.
This week, a federal judge ruled that the state could not bar elections supervisors from hosting early voting on college campuses. Already, supervisors in other counties have said they plan to open early voting sites in time for November.
Alachua and Hillsborough countys elections supervisors have already said they intend to host early voting at the University of Florida and the University of South Florida, and Leon Countys supervisor said he wasnt ruling the possibility out at Tallahassees colleges.
But Hogan said there are no plans to open up early voting at the University of North Florida or Florida State College at Jacksonville.

(54,770 posts)This one is not hard to overcome.
Sure, it would be nice to have early voting on campus. But if there are places just down the street, thatll work. If not, mail your ballot in. Dont wait until last day. Too much can come up.

(34,135 posts)The problem at this point is that Secretary of State Ken Detzner and Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan have delayed things so that campus locations will not be able to be used for this year's elections in some locations. They should be charged with contempt of court and removed from their positions.
Meanwhile, I hope the local Democratic campaigns will work to get as many students to the polling places as possible or provide absentee ballots to them.

This aint an obstacle, vote by mail and cram it down GOPers throats.

(34,135 posts)"Early voting for the August primaries begins Aug. 13, and early voting for the general election begins Oct. 27."
No matter what the judge has said at this point I don't see how polling places could be arranged in Duval county. If the Republican election officials had not blocked the judge's orders, it could have been done.
And Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan "said that Duval County has more early voting sites per capita than any other Florida county. One of those sites, Southeast Regional Library, is a 3.5-mile drive from the edge of UNFs campus." Three plus miles in a town with a poor mass transit system is difficult for a student without access to a car to overcome.
Hillsborough, Alachua and Leon Counties are all cooperating with no problems but a Republican supervisor of elections is being obstructive.
