Ex-UCF President Hitt won't talk with House investigators in spending probe

TALLAHASSEE – Former UCF president John Hitt has told investigators with a state House panel looking into misspent funds at the school that he won’t meet with them in person or talk with them on the phone.

“The Public Integrity and Ethics Committee continues to explore all options available to obtain sworn testimony from Dr. Hitt,” said Fred Piccolo, spokesman for House Speaker Jose Oliva. “Up until now, he has indicated he is unable and unwilling to travel from Wisconsin to offer testimony, and he has eluded the committee’s request for him to appear telephonically.”

Hitt instead asked questions to be emailed to him. His refusal to meet one on one with House staff was first reported by WFTV-Channel 9.

It’s unclear how Hitt’s decision will affect the ongoing investigation into UCF’s decision to use $38 million in operating funds for the construction of Trevor Colbourn Hall, a violation of state laws.
