I am okay here in Broward County, trying to keep up with Dorian on WPLG local 10 news....

(39,343 posts)I'm near the river on a bluff northeast of the geographic center of town. We've lived here through the last 18 years and however many storms and not seen flooding here. Our biggest threat, big old pine and oak trees. There's a dozen that could screw me up.
As of now, we're staying. I've got a kid and I'd rather send her to visit friends in Denver right now, but I can handle an adventure.
You hang on and stay safe up there. I've a crazy uncle near Lauderdale. He used to live on a sailboat and would run from these things.

(6,855 posts)I have a full tank of gas, storm windows and doors, small generator. My sister will have to stay with me. Shes from Vero and too close to the center. My other sister in Lakeland is not too worried and she has all of her supplies.
I just cleaned out my big closet so we have room to hide out there if we need.
Hope you are doing well.

(6,855 posts)I remember texting my friends when it snowed on Palm Sunday in Chicago. That seemed much weirder to me than this! Thanks for the good thoughts

(37,457 posts)The projected track of the storm seems to be shifting eastward, so maybe it will eventually mostly be over the ocean. One can hope.
eta: Full tank of gas, condo building is very sturdy, got flashlight, enough food and water and medications.

(7,624 posts)Got my storm shutters up and basic supplies including generator and gas. The center line of the cone of uncertainty hasn't got more than 50 miles from my house over the past two days.
I might pick up an extra bottle of rum tomorrow.

(7,624 posts)Fortunately for me, the expected track shifted overnight and the center of Dorian is expected to head north without making landfall here. We're still on the edge of expected hurricane force winds and well within the cone. Fingers crossed.
