Young Democrats planning to protest Vice President JD Vance's Athens visit

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Fresh off a series of failed negotiations to end the war in Iran, Vice President JD Vance will be in Athens, Georgia, on Tuesday as part of the Turning Point USA Tour.

On Monday, the University of Georgia’s Young Democrats chapter announced it is planning a 5:30 p.m. protest outside Akins-Ford Arena to coincide with the vice president’s arrival.

“While Vance teams up with a right-wing organization to push even more of his extreme positions on the students of UGA and the people of Georgia, UGA Young Democrats along with other partnering organizations will demonstrate in opposition to the event and call out the Vice President for the failures of the Trump-Vance Administration and for the harm to students on the UGA campus,” the organization said.

Turning Point USA’s tour is a traveling series of live events on college campuses organized by Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization founded by Charlie Kirk.
