Election season in Ada County: What to know about campaign sign rules
ADA COUNTY, Idaho With the November election approaching, campaign signs are beginning to appear in Ada County, prompting officials to remind residents of placement regulations designed to maintain driver visibility and road safety.
The Ada County Highway District has established specific guidelines for temporary campaign sign placement under its sign ordinance. Signs must be positioned at least 40 feet back from intersections to prevent obstruction of drivers' sight lines. The measurement begins where curb lines intersect, or for roads without curbs, where pavement edges meet.
There are designated areas where signs are prohibited. Campaign signs cannot be attached to signal poles, traffic signs or any public road infrastructure. They are also banned from roadway landscaping areas, including medians, roundabouts and the space between curbs and sidewalks. Additionally, signs require property owner permission before placement on private land.
All campaign signs must be removed within 48 hours following Election Day, which this year falls on Nov. 4. Signs should therefore be taken down by Nov. 6.
