Question for Illinois DUers:

My trumpist brother lives there, and he says that, because of how the state is mishandling the Covid crisis, jails and prisons are releasing "murderers, rapists, and child molesters", and not monitoring where they go and not notifying victims. Any measure of truth in that? Or is he repeating something he heard on Fox?

Asking because I want to respond to him, but would prefer to be informed first. It will be an email scream-fest in any case, but I prefer facts to imagination.

Thanks for any info!

The first link: the entire Rockford area is a hot bed of crazy rt wingers, wouldn’t believe anything they say

The Chicago tribe is also very right leaning

Here’s a more sensible link

We’re working hard to balance the need to free up as much space in our prisons as possible with making sure that we’re not releasing those who may pose a risk to their communities,” Pritzker said Tuesday.

As of Thursday morning, there were 77 confirmed cases of the virus — 52 inmates and 25 staff members — across seven state correctional facilities, according to the IDOC’s website.
