GOTV will be the only thing that matters. It also makes this election ripe for a surprise.

Experts have seen low mailed ballots, and even lower actual hoof on the ground turn out. They predict low teens, which would be one of the lowest turnouts in recent history.

Considering that some elections in the past had 110% turnouts, I guess this is evening things out.

Talk about a sad statement about our democracy.

Here is one of the most important seats in government, one of only 433 individuals (excluding Bachmann and Gohmert, who may not qualify as human), and we cannot be bothered to go out and vote.

I think people are disgusted with the whole circus. It may have been low turnout anyway. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I don't live in the 2nd. Our Congressperson is Danny Davis (7th), and my son and daughter-in-law's is Bobby Rush (1st).

4. Both Bobby and Danny are pretty much Congressmen for Life

And so would Jesse, Jr. have been, until he screwed up. In this kind of situation, people are used to not bothering to vote for their Congressperson, because it's a foregone conclusion. I'm sure that attitude, or rather habit, is coming into play in this special election, even though it's critical.

I can tell you, if there were a special election to replace Davis (say he retires), I'd be out there in a New York (oops, Chicago) second.

5. A bunch of us eastern euro professionals gave Bobby Rush

the man of the year award. On the floor on congress, he stood up and objected to the USA's ignoring the plight of the Baltic Nations, an admittedly melanin free group if you ever saw them. He stated, "I know what it means to be oppressed. I know what it means to wear mental or physical chains. I know what freedom means, especially to those who don't have it."

Considering that most Baltic folks were conservative, were angry at blacks moving into their Marquette Park neighborhoods, and had a general streak of racism within, this award was something special. We had an amazingly large turn out, (despite invites, NO MSM appeared) and I have to say, Bobby brought tears to my eyes with his stories when he gave the acceptance speech.

When I stopped in his DC office, he had our plaque placed in a very prominent location. Made me even prouder of the award we gave him.

He and Danny are getting way up in years, and Bobby has been battling, with less and less success, invasive attacks on his body. I would be surprised if he survives the entire term this time around. I cannot imagine what new, wet behind the ears, person will replace him. They certainly won't fill his shoes.
