Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff to visit Chicago on Wednesday as part of national vaccination tour
Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, husband to Vice President Kamala Harris, will travel to Chicago on Wednesday as part of a White House initiative to boost COVID-19 vaccination numbers in pockets of the country, the White House tells the Tribune.
Earlier this month, President Joe Biden announced June would be a “Month of Action” and tapped Harris to launch the “We Can Do This” vaccination bus tour. While Harris has been traveling across portions of the South where vaccination rates are low, Emhoff and first lady Jill Biden have been assigned to travel to areas of the Midwest where inoculation rates are low.
The White House didn’t have any immediate details about Emhoff’s trip here.
For months, Biden has set vaccine goals to hit by Fourth of July. Right now, the White House is aiming for 70% of adults to be at least partially vaccinated by Independence Day — essential to his aim of returning the nation to something approaching a pre-pandemic sense of normalcy this summer.
