And cool to see that, for the most part, all these buildings and vistas are still intact (just filled in with far more examples of great American architecture). Of course, the Chicago River was flowing toward the Lake back then: that's one difference!

I see the river flowing towards the Lake in at least one of these shots. Maybe I'm seeing it backwards.

I was riveted by the scenes, the lack of traffic, the boats on Lake Michigan--very cool!

Have you ever gone on one of the boat trips, to see the architecture? Those are very enjoyable tours.

Chicago seems cleaner, now. I don't know why.

We did not live near there until much later. I remember Chicago in the 1950's.

In the Seventies, the city began a program of intense cleaning and sand-blasting to clean decades of grime and soot from the brick and stonework. The effort was obviously worth it!
I used to live there, in Chinatown, and love the city most immoderately.
