Waterloo's Ward 2 special election: Polls open until 8 p.m.

WATERLOO, Iowa — Voters in Waterloo are heading to the polls today for a special election to fill a vacancy on the City Council. The Ward 2 seat is open following former council member Dave Boesen's election as mayor.

Three candidates are vying for the position: Frank Magsamen, Dave Morrow, and Ali Parrish. The candidates recently participated in a forum hosted by the Waterloo Rotary Club.

Black Hawk County Auditor Karen Showalter emphasized the importance of voter eligibility.

"Make sure that you live in Ward Two. So only eligible electors -- meaning only anybody that lives in Ward Two -- is allowed to vote for this election. So if you're not sure definitely call our office or look on our website. So before you go out please make sure that you're in Ward Two," Showalter said.
