14. Edmond and Ambrose are hard core teahadists

What's ironic is that Ambrose, in particular, represents a very diverse ward. I used to live up there so I have first hand knowledge of the people there. And I can also tell you that Ambrose is a bum. He doesn't give two shits about his constituents, he just likes being called Alderman.

I don't think they would give any help if their own families were drowning.

5. Do you think there is a chance that they could turn this into something

ugly down there. I did note that their is a dioscese and 15 social service agencies working with the mayor. I think we need some people to show up to lend support to humanitarian efforts.

I did note that the one comment section on the links I gave had a few ugly comments.

15. There is always a chance

Like all cities, we have our fair share of bigots, but I think overall, the "border children" (my term) would be welcomed in this area.
As far as the comments section, it seems that the assholes always turn up in that section. I think they are just too cowardly to come face to face with sane reasonable individuals and state their opinions, so they are keyboard commandos. You know, anonymous and unknown. Nobody wants to be proven a dumbass in front of everybody else.

7. Kind of mind boggling....

to think of how far the Iowa Republican party has gone since the days of Governor Robert Ray. The leadership and compassion he showed in welcoming Asian refugees from Viet Nam and Cambodia in the 70's is non-existent in the Republican party of today.
Yes, Iowans help people...it just begs the question; Is it truly possible to both be an Iowan and a Republican anymore?

pushing back on Branstad or Ernst at times. Hatch needs to step it up. Braley has had good ads out there but is really low key too. I'm sick of hearing Ernst emphatically intone "Iowa values," which she does not possess.

Agreed. Especially out here in the fringes of the state. I think he could get more support, but his people need to get the word out.

13. There are actually two aldermen standing against this proposal

Both of them are teabaggers and one of them, Ambrose, used to be my alderman when I lived in that part of the city. I could go on and on about him, but since this is about providing sanctuary to some unfortunate children, I won't.
It is good to see Mayor Gluba doing the right thing. He also recently vetoed two proposed developments in which he stated the developers were not really working for the best interests of the people. I hope we are a sanctuary city for those kids. It will help the image of this great city and provide some hope for those kids.
