Braindead wants to know what to do with the surplus?? I'll tell him!!
He needs to hire more DOT workers!!
I live outside of Des Moines, I have driven the same stretch of I-80 for 40 years in all weather, all kinds of conditions. Today it was the worst its ever been, and this isn't the worst storm we've had in all that time. 30 miles to work, not overly long, this morning it was almost an hour to get there. Not bad for the weather yesterday.
Tonight, after a bright, sunny day that wasn't really cold, it was almost -2- hours getting home!!! In all that time driving on the interstate, I NEVER SAW A SNOWPLOW!!!! In other years, it was normal to pass 2 or 3 each way, and to see them working on the lanes on the other side, in this 30 mile stretch.
One lane, at least, was mostly cleared of packed snow, but the other lane was so rutted, it was dangerous to drive on it--at ANY speed. However, due to the amount of traffic, there was no option.
In other years, the DOT was out with plows with ice blades, clearing the packed snow. On a sunny day like today, it would have come off easily, due to heating from the sun. But, I guess if you don't have enough people or equipment, you just let the roads go to hell. Previously, the interstate would have been almost normal and dry after a day like today. No longer!!
Yes, I'm just a bit upset......risk my life, and my kids lives, just to save some money so he can get his double pensions!!
