from Chris VanHollen:I call on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to de-escalate the standoff

with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe by reversing their decision to evict members of the Tribe and others who have gathered to protest the plan to build the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Tribe was not adequately consulted about the route for the pipeline, which they believe will threaten their water supply and destroy sacred Native American cultural land and burial sites. As the Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe said, "It is both unfortunate and disrespectful that this (eviction) announcement comes the day after this country celebrates Thanksgiving -- a historic exchange between Native Americans and the first immigrants from Europe." Rather than evict the protestors, the Army Corps should find a way to address the legitimate concerns of the Standing Rock Sioux.'
