WEYMOUTH – SouthField’s new master developer has closed its first land sale and plans to complete a second this week, boosting hopes for a long-awaited revival of the project.

North Carolina-based LStar Management closed a deal to sell about 17 acres of land to Westboro-based Pulte Homes of New England for $2.1 million earlier this month. Pulte plans to begin construction of 54 homes and townhouses in September as the first phase of what the company has dubbed “Brookfield Village.”

“We think it’s exciting news,” LStar Vice President Matthew Barry said of the Pulte deal. “We’re looking for more land sales and we continue to have commercial and recreation prospects as well as more residential.”

SouthField is the community planned for the 1,400-acre former South Weymouth Naval Air Station, which includes land in Weymouth, Rockland and Abington. Plans for the project are years behind schedule and include 2,855 homes and apartments and at least 900,000 square feet of commercial space.
