Judge: Man in child porn case too dangerous to be released
5:46 AM EDT Jul 14, 2015

WORCESTER, Mass. —A Massachusetts middle school teacher who was arrested on charges that he tried to buy child pornography from the Philippines online has been deemed too dangerous to be released as he awaits trial.

A federal judge on Monday ordered 53-year-old Scott Peeler, of Worcester, detained in U.S District Court. He said that Peeler's alleged crimes were against children on the internet, and it would be difficult to police his behavior.

The Southbridge Middle School teacher was arrested in June and charged with attempted receipt of child pornography and attempted enticement and coercion of a minor.

Peeler's lawyer tried to have him released on conditions, including a $50,000 performance bond.

But I thought usually because they were flight risks or liable to physically injure someone else while awaiting trial.

What if he does do more criminally pervy stuff on the internet while awaiting trial? Doesn't that just give the prosecution more ammo to use against him at the trial?
