East Boston water main break creates large sinkhole

BOSTON —A large sinkhole formed in East Boston after a water main break was reported Monday evening.

Emergency officials said the break was reported in the area of 168 Cottage St. before 8 p.m.

"It looked like a pool," Franklin Portillo said. "It's like a river."

One person was evacuated from a resident who lived in the basement of a hoe where extensive damage was reported.
