Metro Detroit communities look ahead after school bond proposals, charter amendments fail
Officials in two Metro Detroit school districts and one Oakland County community are figuring out their next steps after voters rejected measures in Tuesday's election.
Bond proposals that would've been used to update facilities in both Mount Clemens and Lamphere school districts both failed, while two charter amendments didn't pass in Clawson.
About 57.6% of voters voted against an $85 million bond proposal in Lamphere Schools, while 42.4% voted for it, according to unofficial results. The proposal would've generated funds to add a gym to the high school, remodel and furnish school buildings and athletic facilities, and buy equipment for the middle school robotics teams.
Mount Clemens Community School District also sought a bond proposal to update facilities. About 33.1% of voters OK'd the proposal and 66.9% voted no, according to unofficial results. Dr. David McFadden, the vice-president of the district's School Board, said he wished it would have passed, but it didn't.
