Huge pileup on eastbound M-6 near Thornapple River just outside of Grand Rapids. EMS on scene

Last edited Tue Jan 27, 2026, 11:37 AM - Edit history (1)

Snow bands are blowing inland as far east as here in Lansing. Be careful out there!

Update: They've shut down the westbound lanes to allow for emergency vehicles to get to the scene.

You never know when you could get stuck on the interstate or by in-climate weather

which is closed for the day. They'll probably tow the drivable vehicles to the HS parking lot like they did with the 100-car pileup on I-196 a few days ago. I saw the buses coming in on the westbound lanes.

underpants, completely correct…

For food low spoiling type…we pack jerky it’s high protein…energy bars…Cliff’s here…electrolytes to drink…Gatoraid…empty coffee can filled 1/4 way with sand and a long burning candle inside. We pack a lighter in there also, so we can’t forget it. Keep covered till you need it. Always keep an extra blanket or two in case.

It gets packed in the car in the fall check supplies first of every month to check the condition of food and drink.

Great tip on the sandy can for the candle. Will add to my winter car kit. Meanwhile a question on the Gatorade. Does it freeze in the car? The freezing water bottles in my kit are a concern.

We have water bottles we carry all the time…it was thought that we could thaw them behind our backs while we were sitting there. It’s an extreme emergency ration, some concessions were expected.
That’s one reason for the monthly check.
