Wyandotte school board calls for member to resign over Facebook post

Wyandotte — The Wyandotte Public Schools board is calling on one of its own members to resign after posting a social media comment that residents called racist and dehumanizing toward Muslims.

A screenshot of the post circling social media shows board member Cindy Kinney commenting on a post that asks, "Dogs or Muslims you can only keep one." Kinney commented, "Dogs." It's unclear when the post was made.

The board held a special meeting Tuesday night to pass a resolution condemning the post and to hear from the public. A school board cannot remove one of its own members, per state law. Only the public has recourse through a recall.

The resolution called the post "discriminatory and hurtful" and was "not in any way authorized or endorsed by the full school board, and does not reflect its views or perspective."
