Detroit consultant made $280K a year, plus flights, hotels
When it comes to salaries being paid at Detroit City Hall, Larry A. King is, well, king.
At a rate of $175 per hour, the little-known human resources consultant from Washington, D.C., has made nearly $280,000 a year much more than salaries paid to Mayor Mike Duggan, who makes $166,487, or any of his appointees.
On top of annual earnings that exceed the salary of any city job, Detroit has reimbursed King for $65,724 in expenses for frequent trips to work in Detroit from his home in Washington for two years.
The expenses include 69 round-trip flights and 226 hotel nights in Detroit, according to records obtained by the Free Press through the Freedom of Information Act. Last summer, King began receiving a $56 per diem for days he worked in Detroit. The per diem later was changed to $54.
