Lawsuit settled over 'worst petition drive in history'
LANSING The backers of a failed petition drive to repeal Michigans prevailing wage law have settled their $1.4-million lawsuit against out-of-state petition circulators whose company failed to collect the required amount of valid signatures.
The lawsuit filed by Protecting Michigan Taxpayers, which alleged Silver Bullet "conducted the worst petition drive in the history of the State of Michigan," was settled Monday following mediation in federal court in Grand Rapids, records show.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court records. Eric Doster, an Okemos attorney representing Protecting Michigan Taxpayers (PMT), said the terms are confidential. "We're pleased with the settlement," he said.

PMT, a group supported by Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan and other business interests, wanted the Legislature to give an up-or-down vote on repealing a state law requiring payment of union-rate wages and benefits on state-funded and state-sponsored construction projects. In September 2015, the group submitted about 390,000 signatures far more than the roughly 252,000 valid signatures required.
