Related: About this forumOK, Minnesota DUers, we need to start planning our holiday gathering
We somehow failed to do so last year, perhaps because I (aka unofficial holiday gathering social director) was in Cuba during the critical time period.
Anyway, who's up for gathering some time between Christmas and New Year's, or barring that, in early January?

(24,931 posts)Me! It was fun to go to The Local a couple of years ago. I'm open to anywhere and anytime.

(1,140 posts)I've never met a single DUer and I've been a member for a long time, it would be great to run into some!

(115,713 posts)They have a pretty big selection, and liquor. Just about any time is OK for me, preferably after Christmas.

(48,217 posts)It truly has the most vegetarian unfriendly menu I have ever seen. Every single menu item contains either meat or fish, including the soups and appetizers.
That would leave Judy out, and most likely other people as well, since we may get new people who may be vegetarians.
Maybe we need a poll, once we figure out how many people are interested.

(115,713 posts)Maybe there is some place on Eat Street that could satisfy all gastronomic denominations (as long as we don't go full-on vegan).

(28,078 posts)For us suburban types who are parallel parking impaired (that was always another advantage to Fong's - a parking lot!)
As of now, any date is good for me.

(28,078 posts)But I just checked the menu and it looks good. Have you been there before?

(1,140 posts)and good parking, for those who have trouble parallel parking (there's a lot out back and another really big lot just north of there on the back side of the block, also street parking, but for those who don't like parallel parking, don't try it on Garfield, the street is super narrow and jammed with residential parking).
Its also pretty centrally located, or maybe located kind of in the center of Minneapolis, depending on how you want to look at it. Great place though, good food, good service, decent bar, and there's a bunch of other nice bars and whatnot around there for afterwards too. (I'd recommend Cause or Moto-I, both within a block of there).

(48,217 posts)unlike the place in Edina that advertises "modern Japanese cuisine"--so modern that they don't have it in Japan yet.

(48,217 posts)Parking meters are free on Sunday, for one thing, and The Local has a wide variety of British Isles and American food, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, even some potentially vegan salads, as well as a good selection of beverages.
If I get a head count, I could try to reserve that room that a certain person reserved before disappearing a couple of years back.
Who's in?

(835 posts)Thanks for being willing to do the reservation. There would be two of us

(115,713 posts)Depends on whether I have to pick up family at the airport - I probably won't know until the day before. But I'll be there if I can.
