MN: Study shows Operation Metro Surge costs taxpayers $18 million a week
MINNEAPOLIS North Star Policy Action released a study Thursday showing that ICE's "Operation Metro Surge" is costing taxpayers $18 million per week.
The institute is progressive and provides research on ICE, the environment and other topics in Minnesota.
In the study released Thursday, Jake Schwitzer with North Star Policy Action broke down where the $18 million is going.
About $9 million is going toward compensating ICE and Border Patrol agents, according to the study.
About $4.5 million is going to lodging and meal costs.
Detaining a person costs about $152 per day, and the North Star Policy Action estimated that
$1.6 million per week is going to detention fees.
Calls to local police have increased during "Operation Metro Surge," according to metro police agencies.
The Minneapolis Police Department reported spending more than $2 million in four days on police overtime, as officers respond to additional calls.
North Star Policy Action stated that these costs, plus additional fees for vehicle rentals, munitions, transfer flights and court expenses adds up to at least $18 million per week.

How many did they catch of the worst of the worst? No one knows! No honest answer has ever been given. They nabbed at least 100 US citizens with no criminal record as well, so they say.
I wish we had numbers we could trust. Inquiring minds want to know.
