http://www.twincities.com/business/ci_26083597/hobby-lobby-coming-maplewood-twin-cities-expansion-underway?source=most_viewedHobby Lobby is coming to Maplewood, as the craft and home-decor store with the Christian orientation makes an aggressive push into the Twin Cities market.
The Oklahoma City-based retailer said Thursday that it has begun to renovate a 49,000-square-foot retail space one block east of Maplewood Mall, with plans to open in late August.
Maplewood will be Hobby Lobby's second store in the Twin Cities, after Woodbury, and the company is considering many more, including in Blaine.
"We are actively looking in the market and feel that this area could handle 12-15 Hobby Lobby Stores," company spokesman Vince Parker told the Pioneer Press in May. "We are extremely excited about the community and look forward to become part of it."

(115,734 posts)Wonder how they'll do here, considering it's a bit more liberal than Oklahoma (though Woodbury isn't, especially). Since I seldom buy craft stuff anyhow, I can't very well boycott them - but if I ever need artificial flowers or a glue gun I'll head on out to JoAnn Fabrics in Edina.

(1,823 posts)another craft type store in MN. I haven't heard any negatives about them yet, plus
Northern Mn still has Ben Franklin craft stores.

(28,079 posts)they moved into their current home not quite a year ago and this was my first time up there.
I was being given the tour of the house and the husband was showing me their son's bathroom (it's the bathroom nearest their son's bedroom, that why it's considered "his" . The bathroom was done with a baseball theme and said husband was telling me he had done it all - and I did like it, it's a great bathroom for a kid who loves baseball like their son done. Meanwhile the wife is yelling "Did you tell her where you bought it all?... Tell her or I will."
Finally my male frlend sighs and mutters "Hobby Lobby - but it was last year I swear to God I didn't know!"
Both have said they will never shop there again. But wife was tormenting husband all week about how he'd be facing my wraith when I found out.
That sucks.

(1,823 posts)is that we now have a place where we can go to protest them. Just like the anti-choicers can protest planned parenthood we can picket HL.

(741 posts)As a 48 year old male knitter, my choice is Michaels. Joanne treats their employees poorly. There is already a HL in Roseville. Trying to make money as a Pharisee is not profitable.

(9,740 posts)Going for the red suburbs, I doubt they are coming into Nicollet Mall anytime soon. They want to do 12-15, I would expect St Louis Park (Shops West End), Eden Prairie (Eden Prairie Center), Ridgedale, Rosedale, and Maple Grove (Arbor Lakes) are on the list.

(417 posts)Late to this topic, but I live in this area and there is already a Michaels across the street to the east of the Maplewood Mall, and a Joann Fabrics a block west across from the mall. There is no need to go to a Hobby Lobby in Maplewood!!
